Manulife Celebrates Ten Years of Trust in Cambodia

PHNOM PENHManulife Cambodia – the country’s first international life insurance company – celebrates its 10th anniversary witnessed by key stakeholders from the representatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Insurance Regulator of Cambodia, Insurance Association of Cambodia, bank partners, CRS partners, customers, board members and colleagues.

In 2012, Manulife was the first wholly foreign-owned life insurance company to introduce the concept of life insurance to Cambodia.

In an effort to foster the growth of life insurance in the Kingdom, the company has continued its mission, with help from the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia, to take the lead and build trust among Cambodians. This includes instilling the value of life insurance through education seminars and other activities across the country, reaching more than 130,000 Cambodians.

Manulife was also the first company to expand into the provinces of Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey and Sihanoukville to make financial protection accessible to more Cambodians. As of today, Manulife protects 110,000 Cambodians, and since its inception, it has paid out nearly US$8 million in claims.

In addition to responding to customer needs with its world-class products and services, Manulife has also given back to the communities it operates in. Manulife Cambodia has contributed over US$4 million in community investment. This includes supporting government initiatives on road safety and helmets donation, sponsoring the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon, fundraising to support children’s hospitals, supporting Kantha Bopha Hospital, providing additional benefits to customers impacted by COVID19, and more.

“It gives me great pride to think about the number of lives we have touched in Cambodia in the last 10 years. During that time, we have made decisions easier and lives better for many thousands of Cambodian families. Not only have we provided them with peace of mind and support during challenging times, but we have also helped them to realize their goals in life”, said Robert Elliott, Chairman Manulife Cambodia and its founding Chief Executive Officer and General Manger.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia, our colleagues, insurance advisors, partners, and customer. We wouldn't have come so far without their trust and unwavering support that led to 10 incredible years,” said Justin Helferich, CEO and General Manager, Manulife Cambodia. “As we look forward to the next 10 years, Manulife remains focused on our mission to do our part in building a better future for Cambodian families. We look forward to continuing to provide innovative and tailored solutions to meet the needs of this market and making financial protection more accessible and affordable for many more Cambodians.”

The celebration of Manulife Cambodia’s 10th anniversary is a testament to its strength, successes, and market leadership, demonstrated by the trust and overwhelming support from the people of Cambodia. As the number one life insurer in the Kingdom, Manulife Cambodia remains focused on intensifying its ambition to become the most digital, customer-centric company in the industry, driven by its innovative products and services.
