We’ve all been told time and again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But it can be the last thing on your mind when you miss the alarm, have to get the kids off to school or run a few errands before you even get to work! Never fear - check out these quick, easy morning pick-me-ups to get your day off to a healthier start.

Mmmm muffins

No, not the filled-with-sugar-and-chocolate types – these egg-based breakfast muffins are low-carb, low-sugar and all the rage right now with heaps of recipes available to suit your taste buds. Packed with protein, essential minerals and vitamins, eggs are very versatile and quick to cook with. Whisk a couple of eggs with any combo of vegetables, meat and cheese then bake. Bake a batch at the start of the week so you have something filling to grab and go.

Get toasty

Whole grain toast by itself can seem boring; especially if it’s your go-to breakfast fix every morning. Change things up a bit by adding potassium-packed smashed avocado with salt and pepper to taste – and, if you’ve time, a poached egg on top for extra protein. For a fruity feel add a banana or some sliced strawberries and a sprinkle of nutrient-heavy chia seeds to set you off for the day!

Smoothies are quick, easy and great if you’re rushing around! The simplest way to make a delicious breakfast smoothie is blending a frozen banana and some berries (for a fruitier taste) with some Greek yoghurt and your choice of liquid (milk, juice or coconut water). Pour into a tumbler and you’re good to go!
