Running 101

Studies have shown that running has many practical benefits, including its convenience and affordability. It is also an effective way to keep both your body and brain in shape, as well as improve the quality of your emotional and mental health.

Here are 5 tips to help you build a habit of running regularly:

  1. Get the right running shoes
Running requires very little equipment, but a good pair of running shoes that suit your foot type will help you run more comfortably and reduce the risk of injury.
  2. Set a running speed
What type of running are you aiming to do? Short vs. long distance? High vs. low intensity? Try setting a pace for yourself and set some goals to improve over time!
  3. Breathe in through your mouth
Mouth breathing is the best way to breathe while running, largely because it brings in more oxygen than breathing through the nose.

  1. Warm up and cool down
Dynamic stretching is designed to warm up your muscles before running. A cool down routine helps your body reduce the initial soreness in your muscles after your workout.
  2. Run with a friend
Not feeling in the mood to run? Your friends can keep you accountable! Feeling a bit sluggish during your run? Your friend can help push you along! Doing exercises with a buddy will help keep both of you motivated.
